Ceiling height 9'.
32' deep by 47' wide (inside dimensions)
Cathedral ceilings.
Ridge is about 25' above the floor and centered between north and south walls.
This is a quiet place where people can go to get away from the family but not be in their room. We're going to build in a murphy bed so that it can be used as a guest room. The piano might be in here. It will likely get some use as a homeschooling room. It's likely that we'll put a wood floor in.
We're going to close in the ceiling and finish it in this room.
The main entrance for the house. Wood floor.
Ceiling will be exposed joists and 2nd story subfloor.
This is where coats are hung and kept, shoes are put on, removed and stored. We'll have a bench for sitting on while doing shoes. Linoleum (real) floor?
Open to the ceiling, patio door to outside, cement floor...
We're going to keep this floor bare cement (acid stained) to act as a large thermal mass.
The main post for the structure. It will extend from the first floor all the way up to the roof.
The house electrical subpanel(s) will be here. Washer and dryer. Laundry sink and (tankless) water heater. I'm going to frame an extra 4" or 6" wall to the north (top) so that we can put the panel in and have room wires w/out needing to do a lot of hacking on the SIP.
The main plumbing wall is between this room and the bathroom.
A large, deep sink for laundry work.
Main water heater for the house. Tankless.
Downstairs bathroom - primary one for guest use.
Not really a room unto itself, more of a space between the kitchen and the "open space". We'll separate it from the kitchen visually with a beam in the ceiling and from the open space by the edge of the ceiling. Eventually we'll also have an island in the kitchen which will also help separate the space.
A kind of a study, but more open and with more light. This is where the heating stove will be. Likely the computer(s) will be on a desk up against the stairs in the back. Probably we'll do a built in bench/chair/sofa thing along the west (right) wall between the stairs and the wall.
Probably a pine floor here.
Two flights with one landing in the middle. Each flight will be the same length and have the same number of treads. Approximately 4' wide with railings on both sides. Hardwood stairs with a simple runner down the middle.
Risers: 6 27/32"
Treads: 10 1/4"
7 treads in each flight and one more on the landing gives us a total of 15 treads and 16 risers. A total eight of 109.5" to accomodate the 2nd story subfloor - Need to go higher for a finished floor.
I'd like to have the stringer's open from the edge of the landing up. That will give the Hearth Room some interesting angles and more space. I'll probably put some kind of hardwood veneer plywood across the stringers to close them, off, I just mean, I don't want the walls to go to the floor and close off that space.
Backup heating for the house to supplement the passive solar. Propane powered heating stove (like a wood stove, but runs on propane). We're considering adding radiant floor heating to some rooms because this heater relies on the open floor plan to move the eat around and some rooms (Away and lower bathroom) may be difficult to get heat into.
The kitchen...what more to say...
Initially it's likely that we won't have an island due to the cost but I suspect we'll add one in soon after we finish. We'll probably put in a hanging pot rack between the fridge and the stove - it's approximately a 4' space horizontally.
We'd like to do cork flooring here.
Primary pathway for crossing the house. Wood floor.
Part of this path, probably from the side door to the main beam will have a soffit to cover the plumbing from the master bath to the main plumbing wall.
For all dry goods and canning output. About 3' 6" wide and 11' deep. We'll do shelves 6-12" deep on the right.
This will be an open window between the main area and the coat room. No screen, no glass. It will allow easier heat/air transfer into the coat room and will provide a stage for kids to put on puppet shows and other small productions.
The main door into the house. We'll put some sort of covered space outside.
We have a big chest freezer for meat, beans, broth and other stuff. Right now it's in our garage and it'll be nice to move it inside.
Side door exit. I think we'll need a small stoop and steps due to the slope of the land, but maybe not. In any case we'll have a small covered space outside that can be used to take shoes off before going into the house.
Opening south onto a deck. Southwards will be the main focus of the property. The land is a bit more open that direction and that's where our garden will be.
